Desert Altars

What if an art exhibition felt less like a gallery… and more like walking beside someone through transformation?

For one night only, you’re invited to the virtual premiere of Desert Altars: A Iyawó’s Journey of Softness, Surrender & Spirit.

Created over the course of my iyawó year, Desert Altars is, to the best of my knowledge, Nevada’s first solo body of work dedicated entirely to an artist’s iyaworaje. Rooted in the Mojave Desert, this collection weaves together painting, storytelling, spirituality, and personal transformation into an immersive exhibition experience.

Through original paintings, personal reflections, behind-the-scenes process images, and live storytelling, I’ll share the journey behind each work and the experiences that shaped this collection.

Throughout the exhibition, larger-bodied Black and Brown women are intentionally centered as sacred, beautiful, powerful, and divine. As a larger-bodied Afro-Indigenous woman myself, I rarely see bodies like mine represented this way. Desert Altars is my response: a reclamation of beauty, spirituality, and belonging.

This isn’t simply an exhibition of paintings. It’s the story of a year that changed my life.
