Five Downtown Las Vegas Spots We’re Mourning Right Now

By *CoCojenkins

In the last few months, quite a few Downtown Las Vegas staples have closed their doors, and we're here to mourn them. Here are Five Downtown Las Vegas Spots We’re Mourning Right Now.

ocha thai las vegas

Ocha Thai - on Las Vegas Blvd, near the Stratosphere- After 36 years in business, the cost of imported goods (rice, coconut milk, various seasonings), along with a drop in tourism (20% - 40%) is cited as the reason for closing. I had no idea that such a large demographic of their guests were tourists. Shouts out to you if you were around for their Blackity-Black after hours extra turnt era of karaoke, comedy, and partying. I loved being able to pull up at 4am on a Saturday night for Thai food and lit vibes.

District Deli and Coffee - on Main Street near the corner of Utah - This is the newest spot on the list. It's been less than 2 years since it has opened, and it closed in late January 2026. I didn't know much about this place - it was too "clean" for my taste, but one of my homies had a favorite go-to sandwich there. The owners of this place also own Able Baker (Randy Rohde) and 595 Craft & Kitchen (Van-Alan Nguyen). Supposedly they may run a ghost kitchen out of the now empty space.

Main Street Mercantile - on Main Street near Colorado - Main Street Mercantile has been successfully attracting thrift, antique, and vintage shoppers on Main Street since 2015. The owner, Becky Miller, has been an integral part of the community, behind the scene as president of the 18b Arts District board, and also a literal part of Main Street's landscape. Fortunately, she isn't closing down due to hard times. "There was absolutely no reason why I needed to close the shop except I am tired," says Becky Miller. "My husband retired so I decided we were going to travel." We love that for her.

Berlin Bar - on Charleston Blvd, in the lot across from 18bin - Guests and employees were surprised to see a final eviction notice to the door of Berlin Bar, on one of the most important days in the city - First Friday. Berlin Bar was like a "Cheers" of mine, and one of the only spots you could pull up late night in the Arts District, until 3, 4 or even 5am, but many folks have mentioned how employees haven't been paid and were mistreated.

Kenny Davidsen Don't Tell Mama

Don't Tell Mama - downstairs at Neonopolis, previously on Fremont Street in Cheapshot's location - This is one of those true find-your-people-and-be-as-uniquely-you-as-you-want, Vegas gems. It was for everybody, but not everybody felt compelled to step into Don't Tell Mama, and that's okay. That's what made it safe. World class musicians just happened to be staff at this super intimate piano bar. You were greeted by singing bartenders and serenaded by incredible pianists. There was never a cover and you were always welcome to belt a tune (for a tip of course). The move to Neonopolis in 2019 after its Fremont Street lease expired impacted its foot traffic. The venue's last night open, February 14th, 2026, lasted until 4:53am, February 15th, 2026.

If you want your favorite local spots to survive and thrive in Las Vegas, then we, as community members, must step up to actively support these types of places. It takes intention and sometimes a bit more money and planning to support local and small businesses. These places support us by providing us the home to be ourselves. Imagine if you were someone who attended Don't Tell Mama, and now your only option is PT's? It's a stark contrast. Also, don't forget the power of a share on social media or text message. Share a link, profile, or post. Share it whether you're attending an event there or not. You might inspire someone else to go.
